We thought today would be a great opportunity to introduce some women in our community who not only actively support each other but inspire us to be better every day!

Meet Zoe Brown Regional Performance Manager – Xtend Barre Australia

Why did you choose the fitness industry? (or did it choose you?)

I have no idea if I chose the fitness industry or if it chose me, but I honestly can’t see myself ever working in any other Industry – I absolutely LOVE what I do. I’ve been working in fitness now for over 8 years, and every day I learn something new. I know I’m only just getting started, there’s so much more to learn and I’ve got so much more to give.

Have you ever struggled with inclusion and belonging in your career?

I have to say that I have been very lucky with my career so far, I can’t say I have ever felt like I didn’t belong or wasn’t included. This could partly be due to my personality and ability to put myself out there, but a huge part of it has also been that I’ve worked with incredible companies that have truly valued inclusion and belonging. I’m not sure I’d want to work for a company that didn’t live and breathe these principles, it’s what fitness (and being a good human) is all about!

What challenges have you had to overcome to pursue your dream career?

Imposter syndrome has been a big challenge to date in my career, and if I’m being honest, sometimes it still catches me out.

How do you manage your work/life balance?

Sometimes I do this really well, other times I suck at it. It’s about realising that to be your best professional self, you need to be your best personal self. You’ve got to spend time doing things that fill up your cup so that you can give 100% of yourself while you’re at work.

Who’s been your biggest Mentor to date?

I’ve been incredibly lucky by having some great mentors throughout my career, there are two mentors to whom I’m beyond grateful. One of whom I am lucky enough to still have as a mentor right now – is Chris Reid. Chris has helped me grow so much both professionally and personally over the last 5 years of working with him, and the other person is Rob Hale who really showed me how important it is to be 100% yourself, vulnerable and ALWAYS show kindness.

May we keep empowering, inspiring and celebrating each other’s successes and what we have and continue to achieve.

The FLI Talent Team.
