The first question you should think about when creating your bio for the fitness industry is this: What compels your clients to hire you? After all, there are plenty of other fitness professionals out there who will offer the same services as you. But at the same time, you should also entice your readers to learn more about you. With that in mind, here are some tips on how to write a compelling bio for the fitness industry:
State your expertise and experience.
Readers usually have a goal in mind – they’re probably not just reading your bio for fun. They may be looking for a specific person who they can most relate to. This is an opportunity to share what you do – your expertise and your experience in it. Be specific and share this information first and foremost in your bio. Making a good first impression matters. Not to mention, sharing your expertise and experience demonstrates confidence. And according to research, confidence makes people appear more knowledgeable, reliable, and genuine. In other words, your experience, attitude, presence, and overall demeanour all radiate confidence. So, when letting new individuals learn about you, don’t hesitate to highlight what you’ve accomplished.
Share your qualifications.
Now that you have established your expertise, it’s time to show your readers how qualified you are. Here, clearly outline your background. You can include your degree/s, even if not directly related to the fitness industry. If, however, you have a degree that majors in Exercise Science and other related programs, then that will definitely be a plus.
Of course, you’ll have to add your Certificates in Fitness or Diploma of Fitness and if you have membership to professional organisations such as FITREC or Fitness Australia. It’s also best to include here your dedication to client safety. So, remember to state your CPR and other health and safety certification you have available.
Be specific on what you do and for who.
Now, you may have already touched this point on the first tip, but here you’ll have to be more specific. So, you’ve shared your expertise. Now, you’ll have to state who are the people you can help. A simple format is “I help/teach [a specific group of clients] how to overcome [common problems].” It’s also a great idea here to indicate a time frame, so it’s more informative, appealing and real for clients. Remember, being clear is more important than being nice. Therefore, make sure that you are demonstrating clarity when it comes to informing your clients about what they can expect from you. Keep in mind that being able to communicate the right information can easily help you connect with them on a more personal level.
Bonus tip: make them want you.
Be the flame, not the moth. Try to craft your bio to be compelling enough that people will be chasing you to work for them rather than the other way around. You can do this with a variety of different techniques, but a reliable and easy way to get started is with testimonials – grab a soundbite/quote from your regular clients (written is good, video is even better!) and wrap them into your bio. Let other people advocate for you rather than trying to sell yourself, it makes for a much compelling case.
